Cher Lloyd: I owe Cheryl Cole Updated: 2012-02-21 11:07

Singer Cheryl Cole (C) is seen taking part in an exercise during a visit to British troops on September 14, 2011 in Helmand Province in Afghanistan.

Cher Lloyd feels like she "owes" Cheryl Cole.

The 'Want U Back' hitmaker - who was mentored by the Girls Aloud singer on the 2010 series of 'The X Factor' - admits she put her "foot in it" when she accused the 'Parachute' singer of miming and relying on computer auto-tuning to perfect her vocals, but she is "very grateful" for all Cheryl's help.

She said: "I do owe her. The 'X Factor' was a great platform for me and she really did help me and I'm very grateful.

"I think I really did put my foot in it and now I've realised that what I said was wrong, obviously, and I said sorry.

"And I think it got fully taken out of context, but I think I understand now that you need to be on form and be aware of what you're saying all the time.

"I'm always doing it. I think I get too comfortable with just being myself. I forget that people are watching me."

While the 18-year-old brunette was appreciative of Cheryl's assistance at the start of her career, Cher - whose debut single 'Swagger Jagger' topped the UK charts last year - admits it is now down to her whether she is successful or not.

Speaking on UK TV show 'This Morning', she added: "You know, I wouldn't say that I wasn't grateful for what she had given me - the opportunity that she had given me, putting me through and things like that - but I feel like from here, it's down to me to do as best as I possibly can."

Fergie becomes face of Wet 'n' Wild

Fergie has become the new face of Wet 'n' Wild.

The Black Eyed Peas singer is the beauty brand's first celebrity spokeswoman and she says it feels right because she has links to the Markwins Beauty Products Inc.-owned company.

She told WWD: "For me, this is really no risk whatsoever; it has always been a part of my life, so it is natural to me. I like to dive into things that haven't been done before. That keeps me stimulated. Otherwise, life is boring.

"In Hacienda Heights, there were a lot of beautiful chola girls. They wore Wet 'n' Wild. I would watch them put on their eyeliners and lip liners at school. The big thing for the eyeliners was to heat them up and put on the black eyeliners smooth. They would also line their lips with dark lip liner....Their faces were like palettes. I would try to emulate them. Eric Chen, who is the [Markwins] owner, was like 30 seconds to a minute away from me growing up. He saw girls like me stocking up on those lip liners and eyeliners."

Fergie also says she agreed to work with the brand because their products are affordable yet still good quality.

She said: "I like something accessible, something that my fans can afford. It feels good to be a partner with brands my fans can afford because they have helped me get to where I am today. All the brands that I am partnering with my fans can afford."

Naomi Watts takes Princess Diana role in new movie

Actress Naomi Watts poses at the opening night gala for AFI Fest 2011 with the premiere of her new film film "J. Edgar" directed by Clint Eastwood in Hollywood November 3, 2011.

Actress Naomi Watts will play Britain's Princess Diana in a new feature film about the last two years of her glamorous life that ended in tragedy, Britain's Ecosse Films said on Thursday.

Called "Caught in Flight", the movie is thought to be the first big screen film about Diana, whose death in a Paris car crash in 1997 has been chronicled in several, mostly U.S., television movies.

Watts, last seen in "J.Edgar" and political movie "Fair Game", who was born in Britain and raised in Australia, said she was honored to be chosen. American newcomer Jessica Chastain ("The Help"), was previously attached to the project.

"It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role. Princess Diana was loved across the world and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen," Watts, 43, said in a statement.

Ecosse Films said the movie would chronicle the last two years of Diana's life and "how finding true personal happiness for the first time allowed her to achieve her defining successes evolving into a major international campaigner and humanitarian."

Media reports have said the movie will focus on Diana's secret two year affair with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan following her estrangement, and later divorce, from British heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

"Caught in Flight" will be directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, who directed the 2004 movie "Downfall" about Hitler's last days. Production will start in Britain later this year.

At least one other feature movie about Diana is in the works. Preliminary titled "Diana", that film has been in development for some months and is based on accounts of Diana's life as a member of the royal family by her longtime bodyguard Ken Wharfe. No casting has been announced.

Diana, formally known as the Princess of Wales, was just 36 years-old when she died in August 1997, causing an outpouring of worldwide grief.

Madonna dazzles in Super Bowl

Madonna performs during the halftime show in the NFL Super Bowl XLVI football game in Indianapolis, Indiana, February 5, 2012.

Pop superstar Madonna dazzled football fans and more than 100 million television viewers on Sunday when she performed during the Super Bowl halftime show.

Madonna, the first female Super Bowl halftime headliner since the notorious Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" of 2004, was carried, Cleopatra-style, into Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium by a cadre of muscled gladiators.

Wearing Egyptian regalia, complete with headdress, and spiked black boots, the pop superstar launched into her seminal hit "Vogue," with lighting and other visual effects contributed by the Canadian performing troupe Cirque du Soleil.

Next came "Music," which was followed by a cheerleader-themed "Give Me All Your Luvin'," from Madonna's latest CD.

In a nod to the sport whose fans she was entertaining, the Material Girl performed much of her act on, or in front of, bleachers, with high school marching bands and drumlines augmenting the show, which lasted about 10 minutes.

After a medley of her hits "Open Your Heart" and "Express Yourself," Madonna closed her act decked out in a Gospel-goth black gown, performing "Like a Prayer" with Cee Lo Green before dropping out of sight in a puff of smoke.

Madonna was not the only pop superstar to grace the high-profile Super Bowl on Sunday, one of U.S. television's most-watched programs: Kelly Clarkson performed the national anthem.

Last year's Super Bowl attracted 111 million U.S. viewers, the largest for a single TV broadcast in the United States.

The halftime show has increasingly featured high-profile pop acts, a far cry from the first Super Bowl in 1967 when college marching bands entertained the crowd.

Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, U2, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, The Black Eyed Peas and Janet Jackson have been among recent performers.

Jackson's 2004 appearance made headlines worldwide with her infamous "wardrobe malfunction," during which fellow performer Justin Timberlake tugged at her costume, exposing her nipple to millions of TV viewers.

Madonna had promised that all efforts were being made to ensure her show would not be marked by a similar episode.

"Great attention to detail has been paid to my wardrobe. There will be no wardrobe malfunction - I promise," she said.

Madonna, who was born in Bay City, Michigan, told reporters last week her appearance was "a Midwesterner girl's dream, to be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show."

"In over 25 years of performing that I've done, I have never worked so hard or been so scrupulous or detail-oriented or freaked out as much as I have."

Selena Gomez wasted a year on ex

Actress and singer Selena Gomez performs during her concert as part of her "We Own The Night" tour at the Palacio de Deportes (Sports Palace) in Mexico City January 26, 2012.

Selena Gomez "completely wasted" a year of her life on an ex-boyfriend.

The 19-year-old beauty - who has previously dated Taylor Lautner and Nick Jonas - didn't enjoy being in a former relationship which meant she had to "hide everything" and do the "craziest things" to avoid being seen with her then-boyfriend.

Selena - who is currently dating Justin Bieber - told Cosmopolitan magazine: "I was in a relationship previously where I had to hide everything and it wasn't my choice.

"I had to go through different exits and take separate cars and do the craziest things, and it just really wasn't worth it. It was like a year of my life completely wasted."

But the singer-and-actress now loves being able to go on dates with the 'Never Say Never' hitmaker and she enjoys spending time with the 17-year-old teen heartthrob being "as normal as possible".

She added: "I'm just like every 19-year-old girl. If you're in love, you're in love to the fullest, and you just want to go to the movies, hang out, and be as normal as possible. I'm fortunate that I've found someone who has that philosophy."

Demi Lovato not ready for TV return

Demi Lovato is not confident enough to appear on TV again.

The former 'Sonny with a Chance' star is taking a break from acting after admitting her battles with self-harming and an eating disorder, and she doesn't feel ready to be on camera again yet.

She told Britain's Glamour magazine: "Right now I don't need to get in front of a TV camera which adds 10 pounds and makes you feel more self-conscious about your body image. Being on camera makes me nervous. It takes a level of confidence and security which I'm still working on.

"When I'm ready I'll find the right role and get back into it, but for now I'm being cautious.

"I'm walking with my head held high, but I never forget that I'm a work in progress."

Demi was admitted to rehab for her issues in 2010, and her time in therapy was intense, with her undergoing sessions lasting for over half a day at a time.

She explained: "I had 14 hours of therapy every day, so I definitely learned a lot about myself. For the first 48 hours I wasn't allowed any communication with my friends or family, a lot of people give up and check themselves out, but I made it and I'm proud of myself."

Since rehab, Demi has been concentrating on her pop career, releasing her third album 'Unbroken' last September.

Taylor Swift aims at Jake Gyllenhaal on new album?

Singer Taylor Swift arrives at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards show in Las Vegas, May 22, 2011.

Taylor Swift says her new album will be about an "absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak," prompting speculation in the media that the latest subject of her songwriting skills may be her short-lived 2010 crush on Jake Gyllenhaal.

Swift, 22, whose "Dear John" song was seen as a bitter ode to ex-boyfriend John Mayer, told Vogue magazine that she was working on her fourth album, and is currently single.

The country-pop crossover artist, who famously wears her heart on her songwriter's sleeve, said that writing about past loves is a way to ease the pain.

"There's just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak and that will turn out to be what the next album is about," she told Vogue in a cover story for its February edition.

"The only way that I can feel better about myself -- pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone -- is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity," she said.

Swift dated "Brokeback Mountain" star Gyllenhaal for about three months in late 2010 before their much-photographed relationship ended suddenly around the Christmas holidays that year. U.S. celebrity magazines claimed that Gyllenhaal had ended the relationship because he was unhappy at the attention the couple was generating.

Swift told Vogue she did not feel like dating at the moment. "I really have this great life right now, and I'm not sad and I'm not crying this Christmas, so I am really stoked about that."

Asked whether she was crying last Christmas, Swift replied, "I am not gonna go into it! It's a sad story!"

Swift gave no details, but media speculation over whom she was talking about quickly fell on Gyllenhaal, her last known relationship.

The Grammy-winning young singer's previous romances with "Twilight" actor Taylor Lautner and singer Joe Jonas are widely thought to have inspired her songs "Back to December" and "Forever and Always".

"I think I am smart unless I am really, really in love, and then I am ridiculously stupid," she told Vogue. But she said she had learned some of the romantic pitfalls to avoid, including obsessive privacy.

"I can't deal with someone who's obsessed with privacy. People kind of care if there are two famous people dating. But no one cares that much. If you care about privacy to the point where we need to dig a tunnel under this restaurant so that we can leave? I can't do that," she said.

Stewart to front Balenciaga fragrances

Kristen Stewart is to become the face of Balenciaga fragrances.

The 'Twilight Saga' actress - who has previously confessed to not knowing much about the fashion world - is excited to be involved with the "cool" brand, as she has always been a big fan of the Spanish design house.

She said: "Balenciaga has always stood out to me. Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always knew and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That's the way it is."

Creative director of the brand Nicolas Ghesquiere admitted Kristen - who is currently dating her 'Twilight Saga' co-star Robert Pattinson - was great for Balenciaga because of her "progressive character".

He told WWD: "Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence.

"From her early appearance in 'Panic Room' to her independent choice of 'Welcome to the Rileys', I've always sensed her progressive character. In 2006, I invited her to appear in a project shot by Bruce Weber. Since then, I've always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga."

Charlotte Gainsbourg will continue to be the face of Balenciaga Paris.

Black Star over China

Pop queen Avril Lavigne shows how she's been transforming from girlish to womanly as she tours the Middle Kingdom. Chen Nan reports.

Chinese fans went crazy when they heard Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne would attend the New Year's Eve gala in Hubei's provincial capital Wuhan.

They joined the paparazzi to pack the lobby of the Shangri-La Hotel, where Lavigne and her 15-member crew were staying.

They knew Lavigne had flown in on a private jet from Shanghai the day before and wouldn't leave the hotel until showtime.

The audience became frantic when the camera followed Lavigne as she walked through the dimly lit backstage hallway and dashed onstage, brandishing a red microphone.

More than 1,000 fans, mostly young, crammed into the ground floor to catch a fleeting glimpse of the star. They kept security busy, as some hopped over the metal fence and others stood on chairs.

Lavigne is among the most beloved Western stars in China. She headlined the China Music Valley International Festival, performing for a crowd of 40,000, on Beijing's outskirts in March 2011.

She began her Black Star Tour at the end of April 2011 and will finish in February.

She will perform in Guangdong's provincial capital Guangzhou on Feb 11 and in Beijing on Feb 14.

Although Lavigne usually shuns media, she gave a handful of interviews in Wuhan' Shangri-La Hotel before the show.

Clad in a sable blazer and boots, and a black T-shirt emblazoned with a skull, Lavigne appeared more catlike than her triumphant stage persona.

It seemed perhaps representative of her transformation from an unrepentant teen tomboy into a sophisticated woman, since her career began.

While she's sassy onstage, she appeared nervous in the interview seat.

Lavigne paused thoughtfully before answering every question, often twisting her blond hair, narrowing her eyes and pursing her lips.

She laughed loudly at her own accent when answering requests to say "Happy New Year" in Chinese for the cameras. She seemed more girlish than womanly at that moment.

"Speaking Chinese is really hard for me, you know. I've practised for months to sing the lyrics of Girlfriend in Chinese," she says, smiling and muttering, "nupengyou (girlfriend)".

"I spent last year's New Year Eve in Hawaii. And this year, I am here in China with my band, on the other side of the globe. China has been good to me, and I spent lots of time in Asia last year. It's always exciting to see the crowds. The Chinese food is good. I can always find delicious noodles in China."

Lavigne was 16 when she released her debut album, Let Go, which was 2002's best-selling debut.

She has gone on to win fans of many ages with chart-toppers like pop rock hits Skater Boy and Complicated.

She is quick to name her brother as her idol.

"He is always supportive and inspiring," Lavigne says. "I feel safe and comfortable when he is around."

She realizes she has grown up over the past decade.

"Everything is unpredictable, and I just follow my instincts, which made me who I am today," she says.

Her fourth album, Goodbye Lullaby, which was released in March 2011, showcases her songwriting abilities.

"It's a slower-paced album than my previous stuff," she says. "It's very personal and sums up what I've been through in the past few years."

Her drummer explained her transition like this: "She's like your little sister. She is growing up, but she is still the little sister."

Lavigne says she wanted to show a different side of herself.

"Rocking out onstage, running around fist-pumping, jumping - I love to do that. But I also have to be solo at a piano and sing or an acoustic guitar," she explains.

"I don't want to make the same record over and over. For the new album, which I am still working on, I will have energetic songs and slow songs. They are all from my real life."

Lavigne has also morphed into a businesswoman in her late 20s, with her own perfume and fashion line.

An hour before the show, Lavigne was told it was inappropriate to wear a shirt printed with a skull for the New Year's Eve gala, because Chinese audiences might consider the image to be bad luck.

Her team became anxious, as everything had long been planned out and set up.

"It's okay," Lavigne says, giggling.

"I am the stylist. I love black T-shirts, and I've got many. I have one with me without a skull."

The discussion ends with a question about her favorite part of pop stardom.

Without hesitation, she replies: "Playing live. Being on the stage is awesome!"

Justin Bieber talks to God, directly

Justin Bieber talks directly to God.

The 17-year-old pop superstar is a Christian and believes there is a higher power guiding everyone's lives, but he doesn't go to church to affirm his faith and instead focuses on praying to God in private.

He told V magazine: "A lot of people who are religious, I think they get lost. They go to church just to go to church. I'm not trying to disrespect them ... but for me, I focus more on praying and talking to Him. I don't have to go to church."

Although he doesn't go to a place of worship, the 'Baby' singer recently got a tattoo of Jesus Christ's face on his left calf and showed it off during a trip to a Los Angeles beach.

In the interview, Justin - who is dating 19-year-old star Selena Gomez - also complained that as he has got more successful and famous he has become a target for people.

He added: "Now that I'm on top, everyone wants to bring me down ... Everyone's trying to tug at me and take my spot. Like Floyd Mayweather, he's the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, 'He's going to lose this time.' "

Justin was stunned last year when a 20-year-old fan, Mariah Yeater, accused him of being the father of her baby Tristyn, a claim which he vehemently denied and is yet unproven.
