Mischa Barton getting 'stronger'

Mischa Barton is feeling "stronger" following her recent reported breakdown.

The former 'O.C.' star - who was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold order and taken to Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in July - insists she has now got her life back on track.

She told Grazia magazine: "I had a bad few weeks. But you know when you are not sick anymore and you feel stronger. You know what? People do turn themselves around in a matter of a few weeks. People do get better, things get better. I'm OK now. I think the hospital visit was blown out of proportion. It was made out to seem like, you know, you are having a complete breakdown and your life is ending."

Mischa also thanked Ashton Kutcher - who is producing her new TV show 'The Beautiful Life' - and his wife Demi Moore for helping her move on from her ordeal.

She said: "There were all these questions and speculation, 'Is she OK? Is she ready to work?'

"But Ashton is an amazing guy and such a great producer. He has been so supportive recently."

The 23-year-old star previously blamed her hospitalisation on an operation to remove wisdom teeth which went wrong.

Last month, she said: "I don't know if it was an official breakdown. I don't know. I had a friend who had a quasi-nervous breakdown, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. I'm not sure I'm capable of a full-on nervous breakdown, but it was pretty bad. It didn't last that long.

It was more about the pain. I have a newfound respect for people who have chronic pain.

"I went through a terrible surgery - a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I've never had surgery before - it all went wrong. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show - it was hell."

Rehab wrecking reveller Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton's friends fear her partying could jeopardise her rehabilitation and health.

The former 'O.C.' actress - who was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last month - has infuriated her close pals by partying at the All Points West music festival in New York just days after her release from hospital.

Family friend Eric Ziegenbein told Heat magazine: "It's scary to see her out right after she's received treatment. When I found out she'd been partying again, I was shocked. I thought she would chill out for a bit.

"The fact she was out right away proves she's not taking things seriously enough. It was like a big 'f**k you.' She's too proud and independent sometimes."

The 23-year-old starlet spent two weeks under a 5150 hold - which allows people to be forcibly held if they are deemed a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or have a mental disorder - after friends became concerned she was suicidal.

It has been alleged the actress' drink and drug use was affecting her career and personal.

Another friend, Suzanne Coppin, is frustrated Mischa isn't listening to the advice of loved ones and is trying to deal with her problems alone.

She explained: "She has a support group, but it's obvious she's ignoring them. I'm disappointed she's not taking advice and is still doing her own thing."

This is not the first time the actress's friends have voiced concerns about her wellbeing.

Earlier this month, they openly expressed their fears she had returned to work on her new TV series 'The Beautiful Life' too soon after leaving hospital.

One said: "There still are issues. Mischa's just not herself at all. I think she's gone back to work too soon."

Mischa Barton's 'amazing' comeback

Mischa Barton is "unbelievable" in her new TV show, claims Ashton Kutcher.

Ashton, who is executive producer of 'The Beautiful Life', revealed Mischa has been a true professional on the set following her recent hospitalisation.

He said: "She is amazing in the show. I can't wait for people to see it. I think people will be really impressed. For me, I think it is the best I have ever seen Mischa act. I was so excited to have her on the show. I was already a fan of her work, so it was great to get her.

"I have seen the first episode and she is unbelievable."

Ashton has also admitted he had no idea why Mischa was placed under involuntary psychiatric hold at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on July 15.

He told gossip website RadarOnline: "I didn't know what was going on. I don't think anyone really knew what was happening. I am a producer of the show and so I had to do everything I could to protect the show. I spoke to Mischa about three days later and I understood what was going on. We're fine, and most importantly she's fine - she's great."

Mischa's co-star Sara Paxton has revealed the cast and crew showed their support for the troubled 23-year-old actress when she arrived at work just two days after being released from hospital.

She said: "We are all really close. We hang out together and we go and watch movies together and have dinner together. We are very good friends.

"When we saw Mischa we all had a group hug.

"She is awesome. We are all working, and moving forward. Everything is great. Everything's totally back to normal."

'A Beautiful Life' - in which Mischa plays a model who is desperate to remain successful - is due to air in the US next month.

Mischa Barton sees Life postponed

Mischa Barton's new TV show has been postponed.

Shooting on 'The Beautiful Life' was due to start on July 22, but it has been delayed after it was claimed sets for the show have not been completed in time.

It has been denied Mischa's hospitalistion under an involuntary psychiatric hold order at Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last week is to blame for the move.

Mischa's publicist admits production can't begin without her, and insists the actress must fully recover before she returns to work.

The representative reportedly said: "Her participation will ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor's orders."

Mischa was placed under a 5150 hold - meaning she poses a danger to herself or others - last Wednesday (15.07.09) after friends reportedly became worried she was suicidal. It has been alleged the actress has been using drugs and alcohol to cope with her money problems and stuttering love life.

Filming is now scheduled to begin on July 31.

'The Beautiful Life', which is produced by Ashton Kutcher, focuses on a group of models living together in New York.

Mischa, 23, will play a supermodel who is desperate to be successful and struggles to cope with the pressures of working in the fashion world.

Mischa Barton's art attack

Mischa Barton loves throwing paint parties.

The former 'O.C.' actress enjoys inviting friends over to her New York home to create unusual art pieces by throwing colours around.

She said: "We mess around and throw paint on canvases. It doesn't have to be serious. Art is about enjoying yourself, a moment in time. That is the most exciting stuff."

Mischa is predominantly based in Paris, France, and says the people she has met there have encouraged her to pursue her artistic ambitions.

She said: "Paris is such an inspiring city. A group of friends there have brought out my creative side like 10 times more in terms of doing art, paintings, sculpture."

Mischa's next small screen project sees her play a model in 'A Beautiful Life', in a TV show produced by Ashton Kutcher.

The series is based on Ashton's early experiences as a male model and is set to air in the US later this year.

Unhappy in love Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton loves "dark" men.

The former 'O.C.' actress - who recently split from Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard - is attracted to intense, brooding types even though they make her feel depressed and claustrophobic.

She said: "I have always been in very heavy, long-term serious relationships... three in a row. I tend to be attracted to slightly dark men, meaning they have huge lows, which I can too. This is not conducive to being happy and carefree.

"I have therefore set my mind to dating if I feel like it, but not getting into anything serious. It's difficult to find the happy medium. I am dating in a general sense... nothing exclusive. I am enjoying myself."

When it comes to choosing potential lovers, the 23-year-old beauty prides brains over bulging muscles.

She added to Britain's Hello! magazine: "I love men to be super-intelligent rather than Greek gods. I love hanging out with the boys, so even after a relationship has ended I like to stay friends."

Mischa also spoke about her tumultuous past, including her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence and without a valid licence.

She said: "I have no privacy and therefore I have grown up in the public arena. Not an excuse, just a fact.

"I should have known better than to drink-drive and I am just very happy nothing worse happened. I have learnt a huge lesson and am now also more wary of my friends and their influence over me.

"I should never have got in that car, and for that I admit my guilt. Sometimes you need a big shock to shake you up."

Mischa Barton's 'empowering' break-up

Mischa Barton says being single has "empowered" her.

The 'O.C.' actress - who recently split from Kooks frontman Luke Prichard after a brief relationship - says being on her own has given her confidence because it forced her to grow up.

She said: "I'm still working on it but I've grown so much in the past six months. I've grown immensely and it's because I've been single. After I broke up with a boyfriend last year, I felt empowered.

"I've forced myself to grow up - I really felt like it was time. And nothing makes you grow like finding out that somebody or something isn't good for you."

The 23-year-old star has no regrets about her failed relationship because it taught her more about herself.

She added to Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine: "I don't believe in regrets. Things are supposed to shape you and change you. I've learnt a lot from my mistakes. We've all done things that were stupid, or that didn't work out as planned, and it's human nature to grow from that."

Mischa Barton happy to strip on screen

Mischa Barton has no problem stripping nude on screen.

The former 'O.C.' actress is happy to appear naked on the big screen if it is crucial to the plot of a movie.

She said: "Doing nudity doesn't bother me. It all comes down to whether I trust the director or not."

Mischa has previously bared all for her film roles in 2006's 'The Oh in Ohio' and again in 'Closing the Ring' in 2009.

Although Mischa has no fears about flaunting her body, she admits her parents aren't always sure about what she does for a living.

The 23-year-old star explained: "My mom and dad are still a bit confused and cautious about what I do.

"My dad is a stockbroker who studied law and economics and his dad was a politician. But I know him and my mom are still very proud of me."
