Nicole Kidman beat Jennifer Aniston in a "hula dance-off" in Hawaii.

The Hollywood beauties are currently filming upcoming romantic comedy 'Just Go With It' on the island of Maui, and they can't stop "goofing off" on set and even challenged each other to an exotic dance competition involving hula hoops - which, after a close battle, was eventually won by Nicole.

A set source said: "They are totally bonding together and look like absolute best friends, hanging out between takes, laughing, joking and goofing off together.

"Friday was absolutely hilarious, the two of them decided to have a hula dance-off competition. We all had to judge who was the best hula dancer, and they performed for like five minutes each. They were both amazing and it was declared a tie, but they wouldn't accept that ruling and both insisted on going another round, this time with a hula hoop! Nic just managed to pip Jen to the post, keeping going for around 30 seconds more. It was a tight one, but she just won by the skin of her teeth!"

The pair have kept this light-hearted approach to their work up throughout filming, and fellow cast and crew are amazed by how well they have bonded.

The source added to RadarOnline.com: "That's completely what filming has been like the whole time, just fun and games, it's amazing.

"This has to be one of the most fun film sets I've ever been on, and I'm sure that's going to come over on the finished movie.

"Both Jen and Nic are absolutely awesome. They are totally down to earth and really approachable and friendly."

'Just Go With It' stars Adam Sandler as a plastic surgeon called Patrick who is so afraid of commitment he tells his young girlfriend Beverly, portrayed by model Brooklyn Decker, he is already married.

Jennifer will play his fake wife Palmer, while Nicole stars as Rea Ann Devlin.

Nicole, 42, and 41-year-old Jennifer have been getting on so well, they have even started offering each other fashion advice.

The source added: "It was so sweet, they were just like two regular girlfriends shopping together!"

Nicole Kidman convinced Naomi Watts not to give up acting.

The actresses became friends growing up in Australia and both moved to Hollywood to pursue their careers, but while Nicole became a huge celebrity and married Tom Cruise, Naomi found the path to stardom harder.

At one point she considered a career change, until she was given a pep talk by her friend.

Naomi said: "I'd been slogging away in Hollywood for five years, getting nowhere.

"At castings, I was constantly told I wasn't talented enough, I wasn't right, I wasn't beautiful enough, I was nowhere near sexy enough.

"I thought about quitting acting and took other jobs - in restaurants, on magazines - but nothing gave me the same feeling.

"Nicole actually gave me hope. She'd tell me that it would only take one film, one casting and everything would change."

Eventually Naomi, 41, got her break in dark thriller 'Mulholland Drive' in 2001, and has since become known for taking offbeat roles, appearing in 'The Ring' and '21 Grams' as well as box office smashes, including 'King Kong'.

Naomi recalled how she and Nicole later met up to read their respective scripts for critically acclaimed '21 Grams' and 'Cold Mountain' - for which Kidman later received an Oscar nomination - and couldn't believe how things had worked out for them.

Naomi added: "Once I'd been given the '21 Grams' script, I took it with me everywhere.

"We went to my house, and we were sitting on the couch reading our favourite scenes to each other. And we were like, 'Can you believe we've got two fantastic roles?'"

Naomi next stars in 'Mother and Child' about a lawyer who stars an affair with her boss, and also appears in the next Woody Allen film 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger'.

Kidman: Hollywood probably contributes to violence

Nicole Kidman conceded Wednesday that Hollywood has probably contributed to violence against women by portraying them as weak sex objects.

The Oscar-winning actress said she is not interested in those kinds of demeaning roles, adding that the movie industry also has made an effort to contribute to solutions for ending the violence.

Kidman testified before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee that is considering legislation to address violence against women overseas through humanitarian relief efforts and grants to local organizations working on the problem.

Asked by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., if the movie industry has "played a bad role," Kidman said "probably," but quickly added that she herself doesn't.

"I can't be responsible for all of Hollywood but I can certainly be responsible for my own career," she said.

Kidman appeared before the committee in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. Development Fund for Women, known as UNIFEM, to promote the International Violence Against Women Act.

"In the real world, the laws go unenforced and impunity is the norm," she said.

The legislation has stalled in the past, but a sponsor, Rep. Bill Delahunt, D-Mass., said he and others plan to reintroduce it soon.

The Australian star told Congress that the U.N. women's fund needs more resources. "We need the money," she said.

Before the hearing began, a crowd of people lined the hall and around the corner to hear her speak.

Nicole Kidman is reportedly set to adopt a Vietnamese baby.

The Oscar-winning actress and her husband Keith Urban are said to be keen to give their 10-month-old daughter Sunday Rose a sibling and have already approached authorities to start the process.

Dang Minh Dao, deputy of the Department of International Adoption at the Ministry of Justice in Hanoi, told Australia's New Idea magazine: "Yes, Nicole Kidman wants a baby from Vietnam. We've been approached."

However, he refused to reveal whether the couple would prefer a boy or a girl, saying: "This is very sensitive information. We are keeping it closed."

The US government refuses to deal with adoptions from Vietnam over fears of baby trafficking and corruption.

Although the couple live in the US they are both Australian citizens and are reportedly using their nationality to help them.

Trinh Thi Tre at the Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City said: "It's still possible to adopt from Australia."

Keith has had a high-profile battle with alcohol addiction in the past, but Mary Ann Russell at the US Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City insists that won't be a problem.

She said: "They would just need to prove they are a reformed character the end of the day, the main factor is the money. That's what really matters."

It can cost more than £15,000 to adopt a child through an agency in Vietnam.

Nicole - who is also rumoured to be pregnant - already has two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

The country music star and his actress wife - who gave birth to Sunday Rose last July - chose the unusual name because they "dreaded" Sundays before they married in 2006.

Keith told US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres: "Particularly when you don't have someone in your life, in my experience, Sunday was the loneliest day.

Everyone goes with their families and if you don't have a family, you don't have anybody. It went from being sort of the most dreaded day of the week for us to being the most joyous day, because we just had a family."

Keith, 41, also confessed both he and Nicole were relieved their daughter - who was born on a Monday - didn't arrive into the world on a Sunday as they feared people would think that was why they had chosen the name.

Keith - who lives in Nashville with Australian actress Nicole - added: "Sunday is wonderful. There is not too much talking yet. Although it's her version of it, I guess. "When she does talk I think she'll say things like 'Good day, ya'll.' She'll have a nice mix of accent."

Music star Keith posed for the adult magazine eight years ago, but Nicole only saw the revealing photographs recently.

He told Britain's New! magazine: "Nicole was impressed with the shots. It was spread over two pages and had staples in all the right places!"

Although the 41-year-old musician enjoyed stripping off for the publication, he is unsure if he will pose again because of his family commitments. Keith - who has a seven-month-old daughter, Sunday Rose, with Nicole - said: "I am a dad and a totally different person now.

But I might consider it if my fans demanded it!" Nicole isn't adverse to flashing her flesh in photo shoots - she was said to be considering asking Patrick Demarchelier to take exclusive photographs of her pregnant body shortly before giving birth.

A source said at the time: "Nicole wants to wait until she looks really pregnant."

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has confirmed that Hugh Jackman will host the 81st annual Academy Awards.

The academy said Friday that the 40-year-old Australian actor, recently named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive," will host the Oscars.

Jackman stars in Baz Luhrmann's romantic adventure film "Australia" with Nicole Kidman.

The actor first claimed fame as Wolverine in the "X-Men" movie franchise. His other movie credits include 2006's "The Prestige" and 2004's "Van Helsing."

　The announcement marked a departure from the academy's standard of big-name comedians. Jon Stewart, who hosted in 2008 and 2006, and Ellen DeGeneres, the 2007 host, were the latest in a line of funny emcees since 1990. Billy Crystal did it eight times, Whoopi Goldberg took on four, Steve Martin did it twice and David Letterman and Chris Rock each had a shot.

With new producers, a new set director and even a new music director, the Academy has been hinting at an all new look and feel for this year’s Oscars telecast Feb. 22.

"Thirty years ago when I was in Sydney watching Johnny Carson host the Oscars with my family, I never imagined that I'd one day have the chance to be up on that stage myself," Jackman said in a statement. Actor Hugh Jackman was surprisingly named Friday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as the host of the 81st annual Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for Feb. 22 at Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

It is an unusual twist that Jackman, who was chosen 2008's "Sexiest Man Alive" by People magazine last month, will host the Hollywood's biggest annual gala night, which has traditionally been helmed by big-name comedians, like Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres.

The 40-year-old Australian actor recently starred opposite Nicole Kidman, also from Australia, in 20th Century Fox's romantic adventure film "Australia," which was widely released last month and among top performers at the box office currently in the United States.

"Hugh is the ideal choice to host a celebration of the year's movies -- and to have fun doing it," Oscars show producer Laurence Mark and executive producer Bill Condon said in a joint statement issued Friday.

"Hugh Jackman is a consummate entertainer and an internationally renowned movie star. He also has style, elegance and a sense of occasion," they said.

Academy Awards organizers have reportedly hired new producers for the annual ceremony to seek an image change in order to increase the ratings of this year's Oscars telecast.

It will be Jackman's first time hosting the awards ceremony, although he has previously been a presenter. He won an Emmy Award for hosting the 2004 Tony Awards ceremony.

Jackman claimed his fame as an A-list actor after playing Wolverine in the previous three "X-Men" movies. He will next be seen in the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the fourth installment of the franchise.

Amid a blaze of publicity, Australia rolls out its most expensive ever movie on Tuesday, hoping the grandly named epic "Australia" will attract overseas investors to revive the local film industry and also tourists.

Billed as a cross between "Out Of Africa" and "Gone With The Wind," the nearly three-hour romantic adventure with home-grown Hollywood stars Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman is reported to have cost Rupert Murdoch's 20th Century Fox about 130 million U.S. dollars.

"Australia" is a World War Two drama about an English aristocrat who travels to Australia and joins forces with a cattle "drover" or cowboy and an Aboriginal child to drive a herd of cattle across the stunning, rugged Australian landscape.

Geoff Brown, executive director of the Screen Producers' Association of Australia, said the industry hoped director Baz Luhrmann's film draw in investors and lure moviegoers back to Australian movies after a string of bleak, box-office flops.

"This is a truly cinematic film, a real epic, filmed in 1940s style. We just haven't had the opportunity to show our wares on this scale before," Brown told Reuters.

"This is the marketing tool for Australian film. It's an Australian film from beginning to end, shot in Australia with an Australian cast, crew, special effects, lighting, even director, and we are seeing this as a calling card to the world."

Tourism Australia has spent 50 million Australian Dollar (32 million U.S. dollars) on an advertising campaign and promotions linked to the film, aiming to make Australia a coveted destination as the global financial crisis hits tourism, as "Crocodile Dundee" did in the 1980s.

The campaign received a major boost last week when influential U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey described it as "the best movie I've seen in a long, long, long, long time."

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman's hunky new love (Hugh Jackman) doesn't lose his life in the final scene of "Australia" after director Baz Luhrmann bowed to pressure from Twentieth Century Fox to give the big-budget movie a happy ending, news reports said Sunday. Luhrmann, who is racing against time to ready the epic for worldwide release on Nov. 26, had initially killed off Jackman's character, identified only as the Drover, just before the credits rolled.

But the money men at Fox insisted on changes that transform "an action-filled tragedy" into more of a weepy romance, the Sunday Telegraph reported.

"Australia" is Luhrmann's first feature since 2001's Moulin Rouge! and Fox wants to be assured of recouping its 100-million-U.S.-dollar outlay.

The World War II romantic drama, only the Australian director's fourth feature in 16 years, has been talked up by Luhrmann as "high comedy, high tragedy, tears, laughter, costumes" which has "everything big - big actors, big landscape."

The screenplay is mostly Luhrmann's, helped along by Gould's Book of Fish author Richard Flanagan, and the paper reported he was persuaded to junk his original denouement for a happier one after focus-group testing threw up general disappointment.

In a film that initially ran for over three hours, Kidman plays English aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley, who arrives in Australia to take over a zillion-hectare cattle property. She ends up in the arms of Jackman, who plays the rough and ready cowboy who saves the day.

"It's the first time anyone has tried to make a blockbuster outside of America and that's what he's doing," Flannagan said of his paymaster's work. "It will be an idea of Australia, a story about Australia, taking Australia to the world."

Some who have seen early takes of the film have raved about the breadth and scale of the undertaking, the superb cinematography and the loving treatment of the Outback.

The Sun Herald newspaper conducted a straw poll, with most respondents being pessimistic about box-office prospects.

A reader called Claire said the backdrop of a world economic crisis would help gate receipts because "when times get tough, the tough buy popcorn and try to forget reality."

Hollywood's most overpaid movie star

Nicole Kidman was named the most overpaid celebrity in Hollywood in the second annual list of least bankable stars by U.S. magazine Forbes, taking the top slot from fellow Australian Russell Crowe.

Kidman's films were estimated to only earn 1 dollar for every dollar the Oscar-winning actress was paid compared with 8 U.S. dollars a year ago.

"The Invasion," a remake of the 1956 classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," even lost 2.68 dollars for every dollar earned by Kidman who was reportedly paid 17 million dollars for her role.

"Despite winning an Oscar for her performance in 2002's "The Hours," Kidman has become the most overpaid celebrity in Hollywood," said Forbes, adding that her upcoming movie "Australia" could give her a boost.

Second in the list came Jennifer Garner, whose movies including "The Kingdom" and "Catch and Release" have underperformed at the box office. Her movies were calculated to earn 3.60 dollars for every 1 dollar she was paid.

Kidman's ex-husband, Tom Cruise, came third in the list with a 4 dollars return for every dollar he was paid, mostly because of the failure of last year's movie "Lions for Lambs." For every dollar the star earned the film returned only 1.88 dollars.

Forbes said the ranking was compiled by looking at a star's past three movies and dividing their total earnings by the films' gross income to get the actor's payback figure.

Making up the top 10 of overpaid Hollywood celebrities were Cameron Diaz, Jim Carrey, Nicolas Cage, Drew Barrymore, Will Ferrell and Cate Blanchett.

The actor whose bankability improved most over the past year was Crowe, who was ranked the most overpaid celebrity last year when Kidman was in second place.

Last year, Forbes estimated the movie "Cinderella Man" earned 5 dollars for every dollar that Crowe was paid.

But this year, he was the 18th best earner on a previously issued list of which actors were worth their paychecks, with a return of 6.88 for every dollar he earned.

This bump was attributed to last year's movie "American Gangster" with Denzel Washington, for which Crowe returned a healthy 10.80 dollars for every dollar he was paid.

The mystery of Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman's name choice for her daughter has reportedly been solved, with Kidman's father saying "Sunday Rose" was inspired by an Australian arts patron notorious for her lurid love life.

Antony Kidman said the unusual name chosen by Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban was first suggested by him and his wife, who drew inspiration from prominent Australian arts patron Sunday Reed.

"I have read a bit about Sunday Reed and her husband John. She was a key mover and shaker in the arts around the beginning of the century. The name Sunday struck me as being a nice name for a woman, so my wife and I mentioned it," Antony Kidman told the Daily Telegraph newspaper on Wednesday.

Sunday Reed lived for nine years during the 1930s in a three-way love triangle relationship involving her arts patron husband and one of Australia's best-known artists, Sidney Nolan. She eventually became Nolan's muse.

Nolan is best known in his homeland for a series of stylized paintings of famous outlaw Ned Kelly, who battled police in an armored suit and whose final days were turned into several films variously starring Mick Jagger and late Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died of a drug overdose in January.

Sunday Reed was also niece of one of Australia's richest men and Nolan painted his Ned Kelly series, several of which hang in the Australian National Gallery, in her living room.

Reed committed suicide 10 days after the death of her husband in 1981.

The Telegraph said Nicole Kidman and Urban had spent a long time looking at a quote by Nolan about birth, hanging in a Sydney art gallery, shortly before announcing Kidman's pregnancy in January 2008.

"When you are young you are given a good view of life, because of your closeness to birth," Nolan wrote.

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, Kidman's first biological child, was born on Monday and weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces (2.93 kg).

Kidman and former spouse Tom Cruise adopted two children during nearly 10 years of marriage that ended in divorce in 2001.

"Nicole and Keith Urban are delighted to announce that Nicole Kidman gave birth to a baby girl on Monday morning, July 7, 2008 in the United States," her agent, Allen Eichhorn, said in a statement.

The infant was delivered in the United States and weighed six pounds, seven and a half ounces (2.93 kilograms) at birth.

"Husband Keith was by Nicole's side, and mother and baby are very well," Eichhorn said.

Kidman, who won an Oscar in 2002 for her role in "The Hours," adopted a boy and a girl when she was married to Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.

Her first marriage lasted about 10 years from 1990 to 2001.

She married country music star, Grammy winner, Keith Urban, also an Australian citizens as her, in June 25, 2006.

"She's never been happier and healthier," a close family friend said. "She is absolutely radiant and enjoying nesting and homemaking with Keith at their new home in Nashville."

Nicole Kidman has chosen Patrick Demarchelier to take exclusive photographs of her pregnant body.

The 40-year-old actress - who is expecting her first biological child with husband Keith Urban - is said to have decided on the renowned photographer to take the exclusive snaps, but wants to wait until she is nearly ready to give birth before the shoot.

A source close to the 'Cold Mountain' actress told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Nicole wants to wait until she looks really pregnant." Nicole isn't the first celebrity to be photographed while pregnant.

Demi Moore caused controversy when she bared her baby bump on the front of Vanity Fair magazine in 1991, while she was expecting daughter Scout LaRue. Troubled singer Britney Spears and 'Dirrty' star Christina Aguilera have also posed nude in tasteful shots for magazines while pregnant.

Meanwhile, the 'Moulin Rouge' star - who has two adopted children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise - has revealed she is enjoying being pregnant. Nicole said: "I feel good!" when asked how her body was coping with the third trimester.
