Billy Ray Cyrus had 'vision' Miley would bring 'hope'

Billy Ray Cyrus had a "vision" that his daughter Miley could bring hope to the world.

The 'Achy Breaky Heart' singer originally christened the star Destiny Hope Cyrus which he felt reflected the way she would go on to live her life.

Asked if he would stop her pursuing fame if he had another chance, he said: "This was Miley's dream. This was her - I believe to touch people's lives. Through her music and her life. I still believe that. You know, her name was originally Destiny Hope, I had given her the name before she was born because I had a vision. I felt it was her destiny to bring hope to the world.

"When I see her selling out arenas around the world or on her TV show, making people laugh, bringing families into the living room together, we always, you know, try to put positive messages in each episode if we could. And, you know, I do think that she - this is her purpose - her path."

Billy Ray believes his 18-year-old daughter - who got her name Miley from adapting her childhood nickname 'Smiley' - is making a positive difference in the world with her "humanitarian" endeavours.

In an interview on CNN's 'Piers Morgan Tonight', he said: "I think she's a natural born singer/songwriter/entertainer. She's a great actress. And she's got a lot to offer the world. She's the real deal. What you see is what you get. I mean, she's for real.

"And, you know, she ain't perfect and I sure as hell ain't, you know. I mean, none of us are. But Miley really, really has a good heart. And she loves people. She loves music. She loves entertaining. There's a lot of things that Miley does that I wouldn't go into right now on a humanitarian basis. But Miley is a great humanitarian. She really cares about her fellow man, and people, and the planet and animals."

Miley Cyrus celebrates birthday with dance-off

Miley Cyrus celebrated her 18th birthday by having a dance-off with her mother.

The singer-and-actress reaches the milestone on Tuesday (23.11.10) but decided to have an early party last night (21.11.10) following the American Music Awards (AMAs) where she and Tish Cyrus competed on the dancefloor.

Speaking before the bash, Miley said: "I'm going out dancing later - we rented out a space so all my friends can come. Me and my mom actually have choreography for the night later - everyone loves it when we dance in unison."

Miley says she and Tish - who is currently going through a divorce with Miley's dad Billy Ray Cyrus - often practise their dance moves on a computer game at home.

She said: "There's one move where you do like, the fist pump. You 'Jersey Shore' it for a second! We got a bunch of moves going on. Everyone goes wild when me and my mom have choreography, so it's going to be good.

"My mom, she beats me at that game! She had 600,000 points yesterday, I had 300,000. She is such a good dancer - she really gets it."

Miley has a host of other celebrations planned for her birthday and has revealed she like to celebrate her special day

She told 'Access Hollywood': "I have a birthday month. I do the whole month of November. Thanksgiving, cake - it's all about me on Thanksgiving!"

Miley Cyrus won't take sides

Miley Cyrus is "not taking sides" in her parents' divorce.

The 'Can't Be Tamed' hitmaker is said to be "upset" at her parents - 49-year-old singer Billy Ray Cyrus and 43-year-old mother Tish - getting a divorce after 17 years of marriage and hopes to keep her feelings on the matter private.

A source told People.com: "Miley is not taking any sides on this. She has been upset recently. She's trying to keep everything private while her family works through this."

Billy Ray filed divorce papers on October 26, and announced the pair were hoping for people to pray for them to get through the emotional time.

In a statement, he said: "As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family. We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."

The pair are expected to file for joint custody of their three youngest children Miley, 17 Noah, 10 and Braison, 16.

News of the divorce comes at a difficult time for Miley - she is thought to have split up with her boyfriend, Australian hunk Liam Hemsworth, for the second time recently.

Miley Cyrus' call shame

Miley Cyrus ruined an emotional scene because she couldn't bear to be parted from her mobile phone.

The 17-year-old actress - who portrays troubled youth Ronnie Miller in 'The Last Song' - admits she was "embarrassed" when her most touching on-screen moment was interrupted by her communications device ringing in the middle of filming.

She said: "The funniest scene was also the saddest. Ronnie visits her terminally-ill dad in hospital and is struggling to hold back the tears. It was absolutely silent on set and suddenly my mobile phone goes off playing 'Don't Worry Be Happy'.

"I'm just so anxious about losing my phone I always have it with me. That was quite embarrassing, but also absolutely hilarious."

Despite the unprofessional disruption, Miley - who is best known for her role in Disney TV show 'Hannah Montana' - claims she's intent on pursuing a serious acting career.

She said: "I've always wanted to act, even though the critics don't seem to be very enthusiastic about my first serious role. I know I've done my best and that's the main thing."

It was while filming the drama that Miley fell in love with her co-star and love interest in the movie, Liam Hemsworth, 19, but the Australian actor admitted he wasn't aware of her celebrity status before they worked together.

Liam told website Bunte.de: "Miley is a huge star in Australia and I was probably the only one who had never heard of her before. Only when I arrived on set and saw all those fans and photographers I realised how famous she is."

Miley Cyrus quits Hannah Montana

Miley Cyrus has quit 'Hannah Montana'.

The 17-year-old star announced today (28.03.10) she would be leaving the Disney show to pursue her pop career full-time because she has "grown out" of it.

"I'm going to rejoice and be happy to finally not have to be somebody I'm not. Now that I'm older, people can say what they want and I'm like, 'Whatever.' "

Her decision follows Miley being named Favourite Movie Actress at the Nickelodeon 23rd Annual Kids' Choice Awards yesterday (27.03.10).

She was honoured for her role in the 'Hannah Montana' movie at the ceremony at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles and fought off stiff competition from Miranda Cosgrove, Selena Gomez and Keke Palmer to win the accolade.

Miley was handed her award by Katy Perry shortly after she'd been sprayed with green gunge.

The singer - who went to the podium with actor Jonah Hill to present the award - opened the box to announce Miley as the winner when the famous gunge exploded onto her face.

Katy said: "I can't see anything. Why does it taste like boogers?"

Other winners included Taylor Lautner, who was named Favourite Movie Actor for his role as werewolf Jacob Black in the hugely successful 'Twilight' movies, while his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift won the Favourite Female Artist award ahead of Beyonce Knowles, Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga.

Miley Cyrus' love differences

Miley Cyrus is the complete opposite of her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth.

The 'Hannah Montana' actress - who has been dating her 'The Last Song' co-star since they met on set - says even though they don't have very much in common, she is amazed at how similar their upbringings were.

"But I went to Australia to visit him and his family, and I was like, 'Omigosh, this looks like Nashville.' There were like cows everywhere. I am like, 'How are you from the opposite side of the planet and your world looks just like mine?' "

The 17-year-old starlet also admitted her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, is just thrilled Liam isn't a "psycho".

She explained to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "My dad'

US man who sought out Miley Cyrus gets plea deal

A 53-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to resisting police outside the set of a Miley Cyrus movie on the Georgia coast after prosecutors dropped charges that he tried to stalk the teen pop star.

Mark McLeod, who told police he was engaged to marry the 16-year-old "Hannah Montana" star, was sentenced by a State Court judge to two years probation and was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation. He was also banished from Savannah and surrounding Chatham County and ordered to stay away from Cyrus and her family, AP reports.

District Attorney Larry Chisolm issued a statement saying prosecutors dropped attempted stalking charges against McLeod because they lacked evidence that his "attempt to reach or follow Miley Cyrus was different than the hundreds of other fans."

McLeod of Appling, Ga., had been jailed since Aug. 4. Police said he twice came to Tybee Island, 12 miles east of Savannah, looking for Cyrus over the summer as the she filmed the Walt Disney Pictures movie "The Last Song."

Prosecutors moved quickly to resolve the case after a grand jury declined to indict McLeod on felony charges Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanors of obstruction of a police officer and disorderly conduct. A third misdemeanor, attempted stalking, was dropped.

McLeod's attorney, James Byrne, said he was pleased the unemployed assistant plumber would finally get help for any mental problems.

"I guess he's just like an avid fan and obviously there's some delusion going on, but that's not against the law," Byrne said. "The evidence didn't show that he ever had any intention of harming (Cyrus) or her family."

Cyrus' publicist, Meghan Prophet, declined to comment on the case Friday.

Wearing shackles and an inmate jumpsuit, McLeod wasn't asked about Cyrus in court Friday. He appeared confused at times, particularly when the judge told him he couldn't use a computer during his probation.

"They could take the hard drive out," said McLeod, whose computer was seized from his home by sheriff's deputies in August. "I do use that."

McLeod was first arrested in June after police said he made inappropriate comments to young girls gathered in hopes of glimpsing Cyrus during filming. A police report said McLeod told officers he was there "to be with Miley" and tried to head butt one of them as they tried to remove him in handcuffs from the beach.

Officer Warren Millikan wrote in his report that McLeod claimed he'd sent Cyrus diamond rings and other gifts. He said she sent him "secret messages" through her TV show.

McLeod was initially released from jail but was arrested a second time after returning to Tybee Island in August. Police said security officers for Walt Disney Pictures spotted him asking residents living near the movie set if they knew where he could find Cyrus.

Miley Cyrus' web war

Singer Miley Cyrus poses as she arrives at the Teen Choice 2009 Awards taping in Los Angeles, California August 9, 2009.

Miley Cyrus is locked in a bitter war of words with her ex-boyfriend Justin Gaston.

The 'Hannah Montana' actress - who split from the underwear model in June after around a year of dating - traded insults with Justin through cryptic messages on their Twitter blogs.

Justin started the argument by writing on his page: "People mistake stupidity for bravery way too easily."

Miley, 16, quickly replied: "Yeah. I love when people mistake bravery with writing a few stupid tweets trying to make it seem like they don't care. You're afraid to love."

The pair have remained in touch despite parting ways, and Miley appears to still harbour feelings for the 21-year-old hunk. Last week, she penned a series of heartfelt messages for her former boyfriend.

She wrote: "I am in between happy and sad today. I'm happy because I love you. I'm sad because I can't get enough of you." Since the break-up, Miley and Justin have been constantly posting their feelings about one another and the split on Twitter.

Justin wrote: "Just recorded a demo. Now I'm sitting on the couch wondering why we as humans try to pretend everything's OK when it isn't. Just be real."

Miley replied: "Everything IS ok. Honestly. I can't change you're mind and your heart no longer belongs to me. Maybe YOU'RE the one pretending you're fine (sic)."

Police search home of accused Miley Cyrus stalker

In a Sunday, June 7, 2009 photo, actress and singer Miley Cyrus arrives at the 20th anniversary Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival in Los Angeles.

Police on Thursday searched the home of a 53-year-old man jailed on charges he attempted to stalk Miley Cyrus during filming of her new movie on the Georgia coast.

Capt. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department did not say what investigators were looking for at the Appling home of Mark McLeod, who told police he's secretly engaged to marry the 16-year-old "Hannah Montana" star. The search warrant was sealed by a judge.

McLeod told a Tybee Island police officer who arrested him in June that he had "thousands of pictures and letters to Miley on his computer," according to a police report.

McLeod was arrested Tuesday on a charge of attempted stalking, a misdemeanor, after security guards for Walt Disney Pictures reported McLeod had returned to the filming location on Tybee Island asking where he could find Cyrus.

Police say McLeod had been warned to stay away from the island, 12 miles east of Savannah, after he was charged June 22 with disorderly conduct and obstruction of a police officer for trying to cross a security perimeter at the movie set. McLeod told police he wanted to see Cyrus, claiming she was his fiancee and sent him secret messages through her TV show.

Tybee Island Police Chief Jim Price would not comment on the search of McLeod's home, 180 miles from where Cyrus is filming the movie "The Last Song."

McLeod remained jailed in Chatham County on a $55,200 bond. McLeod told a judge Wednesday he did not have an attorney. He has requested a court-appointed lawyer.

Miley Cyrus has 'Elvis Mayer' crush

Miley Cyrus' ideal man is a combination of John Mayer, Elvis Presley, James Morrison and Rob Thomas.

The 'Hannah Montana' star is currently single after splitting from underwear model Justin Gaston and is keen to find a musical lover.

Writing on her Twitter account, the 16-year-old star said: "Dear GOD, I would like a boy that is like John Mayer/ James Morrison/ Elvis/ Rob Thomas all in one. YOU'RE THE BEST! Love always, Miley (sic)." Yesterday (05.07.09), Miley opened up about her split from Justin, admitting she is thrilled the relationship is over.

She said: "I am lovinggg being single :) life is so carefree!!! (sic)." But just hours later, the teen star had an abrupt change of heart, writing: "Why do I listen to songs that make me cry?

Even better question, why do I listen to songs that make me miss you? Goodnight moon, goodnight stars, goodnight my love wherever you are. Sweet dreams." It is unclear whether Miley was referring to Justin, or her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, who she dated for two years.

The pair have been photographed together several times since Miley ended her relationship with Justin.

Miley Cyrus signs on for more "Hannah"

"Hannah Montana" will shine on. Disney Channel has closed a deal for a fourth season of the blockbuster series starring Miley Cyrus.

The cable channel also has ordered a second season of its breakout new comedy series "Sonny With a Chance," starring Demi Lovato, and has tapped Jeffrey Hornaday, choreographer of such movies as "Flashdance" and "A Chorus Line," to direct and choreograph the fourth "High School Musical" movie.

There had been questions about whether Cyrus would return to the series that made her a global star, with the teen actress-singer recently expressing her intention to continue her small-screen duties as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana for one more year.

As part of the deal, Cyrus will get a long hiatus to work on the feature "The Last Song," with production on the fourth season of "Hannah Montana" slated to begin next year. (Filming of the show's third season wraps this week.)

The series will change settings next season, during which the Stewarts will grapple with saying goodbye to their beachfront Malibu home.

"That will provide the catalyst for wonderful new characters and further expand the storytelling opportunities," said Disney Channel Worldwide president Gary Marsh.

"Hannah Montana" -- which also stars Cyrus' dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment and Jason Earles -- draws an average of 4.4 million viewers per episode.

A 2007 episode of the show still ranks as the highest-rated basic cable series telecast ever with 10.7 million total viewers.

"Hannah Montana" has generated two double-platinum soundtracks, a No. 1 box-office movie, DVDs, a junior novel series, apparel, accessories, videogames and a Miley Cyrus concert tour, which spawned a 3-D film version that became the No. 1 concert film of all time.

"Hannah Montana" was created by Michael Poryes, Rich Correll and Barry O'Brien.

Since its premiere in February, "Sonny," toplined by rising star Lovato, has become TV's top program for kids 6-11.

Written by Peter Barsocchini, "High School Musical East Meets West," about the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights, is scheduled to premiere in 2010.

Miley Cyrus makes celibacy vow

Miley Cyrus won't hae sex until she gets married.

The 16-year-old star - who has been dating underwear model Justin Gaston, 20, for seven months - has vowed to hold onto her virginity until her wedding night because of her strict religious upbringing.

She said: "I want to keep my virginity until I marry. I was brought up in a Christian family."

The 'Hannah Montana: The Movie' actress - who previously dated Jonas Brothers star Nick Jonas, 16 - confessed she finds it difficult to know who she can trust since moving to Los Angeles.

She added to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "It's harder finding people who are real - you don't know what's real and what's fake in this city because almost everyone has a motive and everyone wants to get something."

Although she is wary about the motives of others, the young beauty - whose father is 'Achy Breaky Heart' singer Billy Ray Cyrus - is certain she will make mistakes over the next few years.

She said: "It's hard growing up in the spotlight, and I'm changing. I can't be the 12-year-old who just moved to Los Angeles for ever. I'm having a great time doing what I do, but I'm also going to stumble and fall. Having my parents close helps."

Last year, the starlet sparked outrage when she posed semi-naked for America's Vanity Fair magazine.

She quickly condemned the images after publication and publicly apologised to her fans.

"Hannah Montana" rocks North American box office

Cast member Miley Cyrus attends the premiere of "Hannah Montana the Movie" in Los Angeles April 2, 2009.

Sixteen-year-old actress Miley Cyrus became one of the biggest stars in Hollywood on Sunday as her first nonconcert movie topped the North American box office, earning twice as much as Disney had forecast.

Walt Disney Co's "Hannah Montana: The Movie" sold $34 million worth of tickets at the three-day Easter weekend, as fans of the perky starlet rushed to see the first big-screen adaptation of her hit Disney Channel TV series.

Cyrus returned the favor, turning up with her father and co-star, Billy Ray Cyrus, at theaters in Utah and Tennessee and blogging about her wild weekend on Twitter.

"omgomg! my fans rock! the movie is doing great you guys! omg AND its all cause of you!!!! I LOVE U ALL! IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT YET CHECK IT!," she wrote, using the "omg" acronym as shorthand for "Oh, my God."

As in her TV show, Cyrus plays a regular schoolgirl by day and a pop star by night. But her father (Billy Ray Cyrus) decides she needs to get back to her small-town roots, so takes her on a surprise trip to her old Tennessee home where love and other complications ensue.

Going into the weekend, Disney had hoped "Hannah Montana" would perform in the same range as 2003's "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," a vehicle for Disney Channel star Hilary Duff. "Lizzie" opened to $17.3 million in 2003, and ended its domestic run with $42.7 million.

DISNEY SURPRISED

On Sunday, the studio denied that it had deliberately set a low target. "It caught us by surprise. No doubt about it," said Chuck Viane, the studio's president of domestic theatrical distribution. "Outside of Wow! what can you say?"

Exit polling showed that women made up 80 percent of moviegoers, and 60 percent of the audience was aged between two and 17, Viane said.

Cyrus' previous big-screen outing, "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," opened with $31 million last year, ending up with $65 million to become the biggest concert movie of all time.

Disney will soon begin shooting another Cyrus movie, "The Last Song," Viane said.

Cyrus is now a bigger draw than Oscar-winners like Julia Roberts and Jodie Foster, who each had $13 million openings with their last movies, "Duplicity" and "Nim's Island," respectively.

Last weekend's champion "Fast & Furious" slipped to No. 2 with $28.8 million, taking the 10-day total for Universal Pictures' race-car thriller to $118.0 million. The studio is a unit of General Electric Co's NBC Universal.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc's "Monsters vs. Aliens" was down one at No. 3 with $22.6 million in its third weekend; its total rose to $141 million.

Also new was the dark comedy "Observe and Report," which opened at No. 4 with $11.1 million, falling short of the expectations of its distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures. The Time Warner Inc.-owned studio had hoped for an opening in the $14 million to $15 million range.

The Japanese-inspired fantasy "Dragonball Evolution" opened at No. 7 with $4.7 million, also a little lower than the modest forecasts of its distributor 20th Century Fox. But the News Corp-owned studio said the film is doing better internationally with sales to date of $37 million.

Top teen Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus arrives at the Recording Academy's Clive Davis pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills, California February 7, 2009.

Miley Cyrus is the world's favourite teenage idol.

The 'Hannah Montana' actress has topped an online poll about young celebrities, with almost a third of voters - 32 per cent - naming her the biggest rising star.

However, only 10 per cent of participants believe the 16-year-old singer-and-actress is a good role model.

Squeaky-clean band the Jonas Brothers finished second in the favourite idols poll with 27 per cent of votes, while former winner Britney Spears was demoted to third position.

According to the survey, fans are frustrated by the 'Womanizer' singer's turbulent personal life.

The pop princess received less than a quarter of votes and only four per cent of voters believe the mother-of-two is a positive influence.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old singer Taylor Swift - who starred alongside Miley in 'Hannah Montana: The Movie' - was named the celebrity with the most influence over adolescents.

The online questionnaire by PopEater.com - which was completed by 57,000 members - also saw the Backstreet Boys named as the greatest teen idols of the 90s, while Kirk Cameron won the award for the 80s and David Cassidy was the most popular star from the 70s.

Miley Cyrus' jealous boyfriend

Miley Cyrus' boyfriend finds it "hard" to see her kiss another guy.

The 16-year-old singer-and-actress, who locks lips with co-star Lucas Till in 'Hannah Montana: The Movie', admits her real-life partner Justin Gaston struggled to watch the steamy scenes.

Miley said: "He's seen the movie, and it's only acting, so I guess you have got to keep that in your mind. And I'm sure it's probably a little hard, but we're actors. We have got to be good at our jobs."

Lucas insists his relationship with Miley is purely platonic and he formed a friendship with Justin, 21, while they were shooting the teen movie.

He said: "Justin is a nice guy. I didn't see any animosity there for any reason."

Although underwear model Justin managed to contain his jealousy during Miley's kissing scenes - her former on screen love interest Cody Linley wasn't so understanding after learning Miley's character has moved on.

Cody joked: "She's got a boyfriend in the movie. Where is he? I'm going to lay the smackdown!

"Everyone knows her real boyfriend is right here. I can probably whoop Lucas' a*s. I'm just joking, but if you do want to fight, let's go!"
