Liv Tyler's ritual award grooming

Liv Tyler has a "ritual" to getting ready with Kate Hudson.

Liv revealed the pair - who attended the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute gala in New York on Monday (03.05.10) together - like to get ready in a special way.

She said: "We have this little ritual where we meet at like 2 or 3 o'clock and we drink champagne and do hair and makeup and take pictures.

"Then we come here and we start walking and we're like, 'Oh my God! I'm going to trip!' "

Liv and Kate attended the event with Stella McCartney - who designed both of their outfits - and the British designer revealed Kate in particular appreciated the cream v-neck floor-length gown.

She told Us Weekly: "She said it makes her feel like a princess. It was made for the girl. It is very much her personality."

Liv and Stella are particularly close, with the 'Armageddon' actress revealing her ideal night in would be at Stella's country house talking about men.

She said: "A great night in? Stella McCartney's house in the country. Once our kids are asleep it's 'grab the wine' and take turns to talk boys and husbands."

Dressed in a sexy black and white backless sundress, Liv and her new man - who showed off his buff body in a tight green T-shirt and fitted beige trousers - couldn't keep their hands off each other as they walked to his car, stopping in the parking lot several times to kiss and cuddle.

The actress couldn't stop smiling and seemed totally smitten with her new lover.

The 31-year-old actress has been single since last year, when she announced she was divorcing British musician Royston Langdon - with whom she has a four-year-old son, Milo.

Liv recently revealed she felt physically sick when she split from her husband last May, and still finds the break-up difficult to come to terms with.

She said: "There's nothing worse than heartache, being lovesick. It's like there's a physical sickness. You go through a couple of weeks where you think, 'Oh, I'm OK, I feel better,' and then suddenly, out of nowhere, it hits you again.

"The hardest part is when they move out. It also brings up a lot of issues - you might feel like a failure, or like there is something wrong with you. You can't run away from yourself - you kind of have to just deal with it."
