The 'My Sister's Keeper' actress attracted attention with her flirty and affectionate behaviour towards the 'Sex and the City' actor during a recent meal together at a sushi restaurant in Venice Beach.

An onlooker said: "Cameron and Jason were sitting in the corner of Shima totally wrapped up in one another. They couldn't stop touching each other. And we couldn't stop looking."

The couple have reportedly been friends for several years, but it is only in recent weeks that Cameron - who has been romantically linked with Maroon 5 star Adam Levine and actors Jude Law and Leonardo DiCaprio since splitting from British model Paul Sculfor in May - and Jason have started a relationship.

The source added to Grazia magazine: "They've always got along, but now realise just how much they have in common. "Jason is exactly Cameron's type. She's attracted to athletic types and they're both passionate about the environment."

Like Paul, Jason has previously dated Jennifer Aniston - who was in a relationship with singer John Mayer for several months after he split from Cameron.

The 'My Sister's Keeper' actress, whose dad Emilio Diaz died last year from pneumonia, continues to feel inspired by her parents' strong marriage.

She told FOX News: "It's a bond that is so true, so pure, and so powerful, it is the most beautiful and inspiring thing that I have ever witnessed - the eternal love that my mom and dad shared. It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life and it is what powers the light that burns inside of me."

Cameron also praised her parents for supporting her career choices and for teaching her and her 39-year-old sister Chimene good manners.

The 36-year-old blonde added: "I was very fortunate to have a very wonderful, supportive family who instilled a great work ethic in me and to treat other people the way you want to be treated and it sticks with you. "Teach your kids well."

I don't make movies for my ego. I do them for my personal growth and to give something to an audience."

Despite growing close to her 13-year-old 'My Sister's Keeper' co-star Abigail Breslin, the blonde beauty is still unsure whether she will become a mother herself.

She explained: "I don't declare either way if I'm going to have children. I don't know what will happen... and I'm totally fine with that."

Earlier this month, Cameron said she found it easy to empathise with her character Sara Fitzgerald even though she is not a mother herself.

Cameron said: "What was amazing about working with Abigail was that I realised you see her and you're like, 'Oh, she's just a little girl,' but she's got so much power within her. I went up to her mother and said, 'Your daughter is a warrior.'

"She can take all these things that are happening around her, that are these very adult, complicated, complex situations and ideas, and she's able to somehow put something behind it with more strength than you see in most people. I was amazed by how strong she is. She's just a powerhouse."

Cameron Diaz has never been a mom, but in her new movie "My Sister's Keeper" she faces a choice no mother would want, which is one reason the actress known mostly for comedic skill stepped into the serious drama.

In the movie opening in U.S. theaters on Friday, Diaz portrays a mom whose daughter suffers from leukemia. So, she gives birth to a genetically engineered second daughter in order to take life-saving umbilical cord blood from the younger sibling and give it to the sick one.

But family relationships are upended when, as girls, the little sister sues her parents to block them from making her give a kidney to her dying sister. Diaz's character, a former lawyer named Sara, fights her 11-year-old daughter's attempt at "medical emancipation" in the serious family drama.

The role is far from Diaz's parts in feel-good movies such as romantic comedy "There's Something About Mary," action-packed "Charlie's Angeles" or voicing the role of Princess Fiona in the "Shrek" animated movies.

Yet Diaz, 36, told Reuters she doesn't see herself as one kind of actress or another -- comedic or dramatic -- and she looks to her own youth in working class neighborhoods of Long Beach, California, for lessons in how real life can get messy.

"I don't feel I've ever played the same person twice. Even though I might have done a couple of comedies or a couple of romantic comedies, the characters are all very different to me," she said.

Nick Cassavetes, son of the late groundbreaking independent filmmaker John Cassavetes, directed "My Sister's Keeper" and said he always saw Diaz for more than her bubbly on-screen personality in fluffy Hollywood tales.

"This is a really wonderful actress and over the next few years you're going to see, she's going to be borne out to be one of the finest actors of our generation," he said.

STRONG SUPPORTING CAST

Oscar-nominated Abigail Breslin, 13, plays younger sister Anna, who is forced to serve as a donor to the older Kate, played by Sofia Vassilieva, 16, who stars in TV's "Medium."

A hotshot attorney (Alec Baldwin) takes Anna's legal case, and faces off against Sara in court. As Kate's health spirals downward, tensions in her family become increasingly strained.

Cassavetes, director of 2004 romantic drama "The Notebook," has a personal connection to the story since his own daughter has lived with a congenital heart defect since birth.

"To work with somebody who was so familiar, so intimate with this situation, this story, made it really easy to trust him," Diaz said about the director.

Diaz said that while it may seem to some of her fans that she leads a soft life in Hollywood, growing up in Long Beach gave her "street smarts."

"The place that I came from it was very urban. There was a lot of lessons to be learned," she said. "I didn't grow up in a protective, sheltered life by any means."

But she feels lucky to have been raised in a working class community by strong parents -- her father died unexpectedly while she was making this movie -- because she learned "a lot of things that are very valuable in my life now."

That experience appears to be paying off in "My Sister's Keeper" because critics are now weighing in and most are giving Diaz and the movie the thumbs up.

"Still better known for her comedic roles ... Cameron Diaz turns in an intense, utterly compelling performance, immersing herself completely (wearing ordinary clothes and sans make-up) in the tough, dramatic role of the matriarch," critic Emanuel Levy wrote on his website.

The 'My Sister's Keeper' actress was "stunned" when her father Emilio died of pneumonia in April 2008, because he was only 58 years old.

The blonde beauty said: "I was in shock. My dad was a huge part of my life and I think about him every day still. He will be a part of me forever."

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old actress has revealed she doesn't care if people call her a spinster, because she still has "plenty of time" to get married and have children.

She said: "I think it's only normal for people to ask my views on motherhood, especially of someone my age, because it seems like he obvious thing, 'Why haven't you done it yet?' But it doesn't bother me.

"It's not the cross I bear. I simply have no idea at this stage in my life. Besides, I'm still young. I have one nephew and four nieces. I've seen three births. I've been there for the dirty diapers, I've done the bottles. I know what it takes to do it."

Earlier this week, Cameron revealed she thinks it is unfair women are made to feel guilty for not wanting to have a family.

She said: "I think women are afraid to say that they don't want children because they're going to get shunned. But I think that's changing too now. I have more girlfriends who don't have kids than those that do.

"And honestly? We don't need any more kids. We have plenty of people on this planet."

She explained to Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine: "What's changed from 10 years ago is that now I want a man who knows who he is. "Someone who understands himself, has already dealt with his issues and who can say, 'I see where I've been foolish before and I'm not going to be like that again.' "

Cameron Diaz says she's a big fan of "Shrek the Musical" but has no desire to star in it.

The actress, who voices Princess Fiona in the "Shrek" film franchise, raved about the musical adaptation of the animated blockbuster at its Broadway opening Sunday night.

Asked whether she'd consider portraying Fiona on stage, she said: "No. Absolutely not. What they do up there ... is, to me, impossible. It's wonderful, though. They've done such a great job. They worked really hard, and it really pays off."

Tony-winning actress Sutton Foster plays Fiona in "Shrek the Musical," which began preview performances last month at the Broadway Theatre. Actor Brian d'Arcy James portrays the titular smelly green ogre who lives in a swamp and falls for Fiona.

"It's hilarious," said Diaz, sporting a white Bill Blass dress, black Dior coat and bright red lips. "There's so many laughs. ... It's great to see all the actors playing it together, because when we do it for the animated (films), we never see each other. We don't work together."

Diaz reprises her voice role in the fourth "Shrek" film, slated for release in 2010. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy will return as Shrek and Donkey, respectively.

Joining Diaz at Sunday's performance were America Ferrera, Joan Rivers, Rosie Perez, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Phylicia Rashad, and Ben Stiller and his wife, actress Christine Taylor.

"We are 'Shrek' fans at our house," Stiller said while Taylor posed for photographs on the red carpet. "And we're going to go check out the musical and let the kids know if it's suitable for children."

Rivers bantered with Gifford and Kotb, who co-host the fourth hour of NBC's "Today Show." When Gifford asked for Rivers' favorite "Shrek" character, Rivers responded: "Oh yeah, like I care! We're all grown-ups! I'm thrilled to be here."

Rivers, who had a cameo in 2004's "Shrek 2," cracked: "I'm part of the family. But I'm not hardly, like, excited to see 'Shrek' (onstage)."
