Actress Zhang Ziyi named China's "most beautiful person" by media

Chinese movie star Zhang Ziyi shoots new photos for the fashion magazine Bazaar.

Actress Zhang Ziyi has placed first on a list of the 50 "most beautiful people in China."

The fourth annual event was organized by The Beijing News, which announced the result in its Friday edition.

Zhang, who starred in the films "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Memoirs of a Geisha," was first partly because she organized an overseas fund drive for survivors of the May 12 Sichuan earthquake while attending the Cannes Film Festival, said judge Hai Yan, a playwright and TV producer.

Hong Kong-based Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, a Cannes Film Festival best actor, came in second.

Olympics diving champion Guo Jingjing, martial arts star Jet Li and Li Yuchun, who made her name in a singing contest Super Girl, the Chinese version of American Idol, also made it into the top 50.

Burglars break into Paris Hilton's home, steal away jewelry

Burglars broke into the home of Hollywood actress and socialite Paris Hilton overnight, stealing away about 2 million dollars worth of jewelry and other belongings, police said on Friday.

A security guard reported about 5 a.m. that a forced entry had occurred at Hilton's home in Hollywood Hills north of Los Angeles, and the property was taken, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Julianne Sohn.

Hilton, heiress of the Hilton Hotels group, was not home at the time of the burglary and the house is equipped with security video equipment.

Police said they were seeking a suspect described as a man who wore a hooded sweatshirt and gloves.

However, LAPD detectives at this time do not think that the incident is connected to infamous burglaries that have occurred in Hollywood Hills and nearby areas in recent months and cost many celebrities hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry and other valuables.

In those cases, two or three men clad in black and wearing ski masks and gloves hit homes of more than 70 celebrities, usually at night and often on weekends, police said.

The victims in those burglaries included former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing, Clippers basketball star Cuttino Mobley, rock band Duran Duran guitarist John Taylor, and country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

Emma Watson has no need for money in life

Emma Watson said she had "no need for money in her life".

The "Harry Potter" actress - estimated to be worth 13 million pounds - will never agree to star in a film purely for financial gain.

Emma, 18, said: "The wealth side of it hasn't hit me yet because I have no need for money in my life. My life will not be motivated by money.

"I will never do a film because they're going to pay me a certain amount of money. It's liberating. It means I can hopefully make great choices."

The British actress also insists she has not adopted a lavish lifestyle despite starring in six "Harry Potter" films, and still uses public transport.

She added to USA Today newspaper: "I have a more normal life than people expect. When I take public transport, people are like, 'That girl looks like the girl from 'Harry Potter', but it can't be her on the train.'

"I get stopped by people, but that's fine. I'd never want to be so famous that I couldn't live a normal life to a certain extent. I can't imagine anything lonelier, just not being able to be part of the real world and being trapped and locked in hotel rooms and cars."

Emma lends her voice to the character Princess Pea in new animated film "The Tale of Despereaux" which opens in European cinemas from Friday.

"Doubt" leads SAG Awards race with five nominations

Miramax's period drama "Doubt" received five Screen Actors Guild Award nominations Thursday, more than any other films, for honors in the acting field presented by Hollywood's largest actors organization.

Nominations earned by "Doubt," which tells a story about a nun who confronts a priest after suspecting him of molesting a new black student, included best actress for Meryl Streep, best supporting actor for Phillip Seymour Hoffman and best ensemble cast.

The SAG Awards have done only slightly better in predicting Oscar winners than the Golden Globe Awards, which are handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, since the guild first presented the awards in 1995.

A total of 36 recipients of the SAG Awards have gone on to win Oscars since 1995, compared to 34 Golden Globe winners during the same period.

Along with "Doubt," the nominees for best ensemble cast in a motion picture were period dramas "Frost/Nixon" and "Milk," romance comedy "Slumdog Millionaire," and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," starring Brad Pitt.

Pitt also received a best actor nomination for his title role in "Benjamin Button," as did Richard Jenkins for "The Visitor," Frank Langella for "Frost/Nixon," and Sean Penn for "Milk."

Nominees for best actress in a motion picture included Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married," Angelina Jolie for "The Changeling," Melissa Leo for "Frozen River," Meryl Streep for "Doubt" and Kate Winslet for "Revolutionary Road."

Meanwhile, nominations for the 15th annul SAG Awards' television category were also announced by organizers at a press conference in West Hollywood. The nominations are determined by panels of more than 2,100 actors randomly selected by the guild from its 120,000 members.

This year's SAG Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 25 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

PETA perfect Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis has been named Person of the Year by PETA. Earlier this year, the campaign group crowned the 'Run' singer - who is working on an accessories line of vegan shoes and bags - Sexiest Vegetarian. Lat year's Person of the Year was Sir Paul McCartney's fashion designer daughter Stella McCartney.

Leona, who hasn't eaten meat since she was 12, has previously said: "I am totally against animal cruelty. I am vegetarian so I don't have clothes, shoes, or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products. I'm on a mission."

Sex queen Ashlee Simpson

Pete Wentz had the "best sexual encounter" of his life with wife Ashlee Simpson. The Fall Out Boy rocker insists the first time he made love to Ashlee was amazing because he had fantasised about her for so long.

Oprah Winfrey makes TV movie deal with HBO

Oprah Winfrey's production company has signed a deal to make movies, documentaries and series for cable channel HBO, Harpo Films and HBO said on Tuesday.

The move to HBO ends a long relationship with ABC for Winfrey's production company output of uplifting movies including Emmy-award winning "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "Their Eyes Were Watching God," starring Halle Berry.

Kate Forte, president of Harpo Films, said HBO offered a unique blend of format and creativity on television, "and the quality and range of their subjects are extraordinary."

No details of projects in the multiyear exclusive deal were released but the two sides said they could include mini-series, movies, documentaries and series.

Winfrey, 54, was named the most powerful woman in entertainment earlier this month by trade paper The Hollywood Reporter.

HBO is owned by Time Warner Inc, and ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co.
