Angelina Jolie in French hospital to give birth

Angelina Jolie, who is expecting twins with partner Brad Pitt, has checked in a French hospital to be kept under doctors' surveillance and get some rest before she gives birth.

Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt sit at their table during the 14th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles Jan. 27, 2008.

"As part of the normal monitoring of her pregnancy, as it has been arranged for a long time, Ms. Angelina Jolie was admitted to the Lenval Foundation's Santa Maria maternity clinic," said a statement from the Nice-based hospital quoted in media reports Wednesday.

"The visit has been planned for a long time, there are no complications. She is just resting," said Nadine Bauer, spokeswoman for the hospital.

The 33-year-old Oscar winner will stay in the clinic until she gives birth -- the date of which has not been revealed, according to media reports.

Jolie confirmed she intended to give birth to her twins in France in May.

She and Pitt already have one biological daughter together, 2-year-old Shiloh. They are also the parents of three adopted children -- Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3.

The Hollywood couple settled into a new home in the south of France. They recently moved into the Miraval Estate villa in the French hamlet of Correns, in the Provence region.

Correns is about 60 miles (about 97km) from Nice, a resort on the Mediterranean. Bauer said the hospital faces the sea, is "very modern" and specializes in caring for children.
